Sunscreen Tips For Summer

Now that summer is here, you’re going to be outside doing all sorts of fun stuff. From the beaches to the pools, parks and more, you’ll be spending a significant time outside in the sun. While it’s great to be outside in order to get natural vitamin D into your life, it can also be harmful because of the sun’s UV rays. These rays can really wreck havoc on your skin, causing it to burn, redden and even develop serious skin conditions like melanoma and skin cancer. To avoid all this things, you need to make sure that you use lots of sunscreen to protect your precious skin this summer.

But even though you want to use sunscreen whenever you’re outside, there are still some rules you want to follow to ensure that you’re being 100% safe when it comes to saving your skin from the sun. Just because you use sunscreen doesn’t mean you’re using it correctly, so here are some useful and important sunscreen tips to follow for the summer (or any time of the year, really)!

Buy water-resistant sunscreen

With so many sunscreen options on the market today, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out which one to buy! Whatever brand you choose, always make sure that it’s water resistant. This way, the sunscreen won’t wash off when you play in the water or sweat a lot during the long summer months. The sunscreen will stay on your skin at the beach or the pool and this is very important since the sun’s rays reflect off the surface of the water, so you get hit even harder while in the water! But don’t forget to always reapply more sunscreen when you get out of the water for continuous protection.

Reapply the sunscreen throughout the day

It’s one thing to place an initial application of sunscreen just as you go outside, but an entirely different thing reapplying it later, which most people don’t do. It’s vital that you continue your skin’s protection by reapplying sunscreen every two hours so that your skin is never in danger as you’re out having fun in the summer sun!

Always opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen

When choosing the right sunscreen for summer, always opt for one that’s labeled as a broad-spectrum sunscreen. This means the sunscreen will protect you against the sun’s UVA rays and UVB rays. All sunscreens protect you skin from UVB rays, but they don’t do UVA rays, which is what contributes to things like skin cancer and premature aging. UVB protects against sunburns and rashes.

Use a SPF 50 or higher

If you know you’re going to be out in the sun all day, it’s best that you get a SPF of 50 or higher to have maximum protection. In fact, the higher the SPF, the better so that you decrease your chances of getting burned or worse! And if you can layer sunscreens, that’s great, especially if you just need something for daily use like a moisturizer with SPF and then SPF-infused spray best.

So this summer, don't forget to wear sunscreen to protect your skin and follow our useful tips! You’ll be able to prevent your skin getting burned and more.
